Jin Shin Do is a Japanese phrase meaning -“The Way of the Compassionate Spirit.” Through compassion for ourselves and others, we can walk the path of our true spirit. Acupressure is a way of accessing and releasing blocked or congested energy centers in the body. These energy centers, or Acupoints, lie on energy pathways called Meridians. When Acupoints or Meridians are blocked or congested, we experience pain or discomfort on a physical level. On an emotional level, we may become frustrated or irritable, and on a spiritual (energetic) level, we may feel ungrounded, vulnerable, and have difficulty knowing our real purpose in life. Jin Shin Do is a unique synthesis of ancient Asian physical medicine, theory and philosophy, combined with western mind/body concepts like empathy, empowerment and reframing. Jin Shin Do is a gentle yet effective method to relieve stress and pain and attain more joy in life. A Jin Shin Do session begins with greeting you and listening to what is going on in your life. During this time, an assessment is made of your physical, emotional and energetic states. You are then invited to lie on your back fully clothed on a massage table. Further assessments are then made by checking your pulses and any areas of sensitivity on your body. The appropriate Acupoints are then held with gentle, deep finger pressure in a way that encourages the tension to release.
As you allow yourself to become mindful of the tension, you will notice how the initial sensation quickly changes to a deepening sense of warmth and relaxation. This is the most common experience our clients tell us about, and many say that their relaxation lasts for days after their session. Jin Shin Do sessions last about ninety minutes, and you may wish to allow yourself some quiet time after your session to fully appreciate your experience. The effects of a Jin Shin Do session will vary from person to person, and by the condition being addressed. |
